CHUSEOK : KOREAN THANKSGIVING

    추석

                     CHUSEOK 2020

              SEPTEMBER 30 - OCTOBER 2

CELEBRATE and learn about the Korean Mid-Autumn harvest festival!

I guess everyone knows about Thanksgiving through the famous Tv show , F.R.E.I.N.D.S , but here is somewhat same festival for KOREANS.

What is Chuseok?

Chuseok(추석) , also known as Korean Thanksgiving Day, is one of the most important and festive holidays of the year.

Chuseok, also known as Hangawi , is huge in Korea. It's one of the country's most significant holidays of the year, and could even be called Korean Thanksgiving.

Here is BTS wishing you Happy Chuseok 💜✨.

Chuseok translates to "autumn eve" and is, at its core, a harvest moon festival nodding back to Korea's traditional agrarian roots. It usually falls sometime in late September to early October (this year it's Sept. 30 to Oct. 2).

Dates of chuseok might differ every year but a couple of things remain constant: the traditional foods that make their way onto every family table, and the infamous bumper-to-bumper traffic that plagues the small country's major roads in the lead-up to the long holiday, as people make the pilgrimage back to their hometowns to honor familial ancestors and be thankful to them.
Like any good holiday, Chuseok's three-day period is one marked by lots of good family time, games, and of course, good, glorious food.

Koreans celebrate Chuseok by making special foods, particularly a certain kind of rice cake called songpyeonSongpyeon is made with finely ground new rice and the dough is kneaded into small round shapes and filled with sesame seeds, chestnuts, red beans, or other similar ingredients.

Another Chuseok tradition in modern-day Korea is that of giving Chuseok gift sets
(추석선물세트)  Koreans will present gifts to not only their relatives, but also to friends and business acquaintances to show their thanks and appreciation.

Spam, which is extremely popular in Korea, is actually one of the most popular gift sets to present to your near and dear ones.

CHANGES DUE TO COVID -19

But this year due to covid -19 everthing has changed . People are going to celebrate chuseok in a digital way by video calling family members and not meeting them in person to maintain social distance because this might become the cause of outbreak of covid-19 in SOUTH KOREA as thousands of people travel to their hometown to celebrate.

Hope you have nice and safe chuseok !!🤗
